Day three was the most remarkable: A visit to the main temple site of Hampi. It is a very ancient city, close to 2000 years old, with many of the structures remarkably intact. It is quite a famous place in India...I had never heard of it before, and despite the arduous journey to get here, I was SO glad that I did!!! The inhabitants were very deeply religious... as such, many temples were clustered together at the city's heart, since EVERY deity had to be honored with his/her own temple!! (And, as you may know, there are hundreds of them in Hinduism! remarkable!!)

We have a picnic lunch inside one of the largest, main temples...odd, to be sure, but such things are done here! |
 |
I am always awed and fascinated by the spectacular pillars in these old temples, generally carved from a single block of stone! Cannot even imagine how hard that must be, or how long it must take to do!!!

moving on, to walk along a beautiful, rock-lined river near the ancient city...

I don't know how many dozens of temples we visited on this day, but it was a heckova lot!!!
